Which Linear Models This Applies To

Most cracked or broken weld points on Linear systems show up on the gate frame attachment, the hinge posts, or the operator mounting plate rather than inside the operator itself. The Linear swing-gate armatures, rack brackets, and post-mount kits on the LRA and LS series, plus the newer Linear Pro Access and Nice-branded Linear arms, all bolt to steel that eventually fatigues at the weld. The operator itself is usually fine; the steel around it is what fails.

Before you order any replacement part on your own, take two photos: one of the operator’s data plate (the silver sticker with the model and serial number) and one of the failed area with a tape measure held against it. Linear changed bolt patterns between the original LRA residential arms and the commercial L-Series pull-to-open models, and a bracket that looks right on a screen often sits an inch off on the gate. Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate sags at the hinge side and scrapes concrete. A cracked hinge weld or a fatigued bracket lets the gate drop a quarter inch, then a half inch, then enough to carve a groove in the driveway. The opener keeps working harder to compensate until it gives up.
• The operator strains and reverses before the gate fully opens or closes. Linear boards read amperage. When a bent bracket or cracked weld adds drag, the board trips the auto-reverse because it thinks an obstruction is in the path. The gate is not broken; the steel is binding.
• A rhythmic creak or click when the gate moves. Cracks in steel open and close as the gate cycles, and the sound comes in time with the motion, not randomly. Grease will not silence it, because the metal is moving against itself.
• Loose or missing bolts around the operator mounting plate. When a weld lets go, vibration shifts to the bolts, and they work loose or snap. By the time a Linear arm is hanging on two bolts, the mounting plate needs either a fresh weld or a replacement.
• The gate does not close square; one corner lands first. A twisted frame or a broken weld at the mid-rail changes the gate’s geometry. The closer it lands out of square, the more stress lands on the remaining welds, and the faster they fail.
