Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags 2 to 4 inches on the latch side. This usually means the lower gate bracket weld has started tearing away from the gate frame. The opener is still pushing, but it’s now fighting gravity at the wrong angle. It only gets worse, and it wears the hinge pins while it does.
- The opener arm makes a knocking sound mid-travel. When the clevis pin hole in the bracket elongates from wear, the arm develops play. That knock is the pin rattling inside an oval hole. Replacing the bracket is the cure, not a new opener.
- The gate shudders or hesitates when starting to open. A cracked post bracket flexes under load, which confuses the opener’s force sensing. The motor thinks it’s hitting an obstruction. It isn’t. The bracket is flexing.
- Bracket mounting bolts keep loosening no matter how tight you get them. If the bolt holes have wallowed out or the bracket itself is bent, no amount of tightening fixes it. The bracket needs to be removed, the gate frame repaired, and a fresh bracket installed with proper penetration on the welds.
